North Alabama took a 4-1 lead into the 50th minute of play against Barry in Friday’s fixture, but the Buccaneers equalized in the 88th minute before scoring the winning goal just over a minute and a half into the second overtime. The Lions (1-1-0) regrouped as 2009 GSC Player and Freshman of the Year Chloe Roberts scored her third goal of the weekend just 11 seconds into Sunday’s match with Nova Southeastern before adding another in the 20th minute to lead UNA to a 2-0 victory. Roberts earned her fourth career GSC Player of the Week award after notching four goals over the weekend.
North Alabama middle blocker Sarah Roberts is the Gulf South Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week. While UNA struggled during a 1-2 opening weekend, Roberts performed admirably for the Lions. The senior had 50 kills in 12 games, with a solid .368 hitting percentage in 106 attempts. In a win over Florida Tech, she had 21 kills and a .528 hitting percentage as UNA swept the match for its first win of the season.
