Lions finish 3-1 at Pirate Volleyball Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team opened play Friday at the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Volleyball Classic with a pair of five-set victories to climb above the .500 mark for the season at 3-2. The Lions began the day with a 3-2 win over Augusta State, then followed with a 3-2 win over Florida Southern in a South Region matchup.

Against Augusta State, the Lions rallied to win the five-set contest after dropping the opening game. After ASU took the early lead with a 25-16 victory, UNA was able to take a 2-1 lead in the match with wins in the second (25-17) and third (32-30) sets.

In the nightcap, the two teams traded victories throughout the match with UNA winning the first, third and fifth sets to hand Florida Southern (5-1) its first loss of the season. Three players reached double digits in kills while Greenhill had a career-high 32 digs for the Lions.

SAVANNAH, Ga., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team wrapped up play at the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Volleyball Classic Saturday with a split. The Lions began the day with a 3-2 win over No. 22 Flagler, then dropped a 3-0 decision to Rollins to finish the weekend event with a 3-1 record.

After seven neutral matches on the road, the Lions will return to Flowers Hall next weekend to host the UNA Classic.

Saturday’s opening match featured another five-set victory for the Lions. After winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22, UNA had to fight off a Flagler rally and win the match with a 15-9 victory in the deciding fifth set.

North Alabama’s winning streak came to an end in the final match of the day against Rollins. The Tars jumped out to early leads and cruised in all three sets during the 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 victory.
