Lions split regional games on-the-road


ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — For the second time in three matches this season the University of North Alabama women’s soccer team dropped an overtime decision to a South Region opponent, this time falling to Lynn 2-1.

UNA out-shot Lynn 20-10 in the match but the Lions put just one in the net. Lynn’s Melissa Ortiz opened the scoring with a goal at the 14:23 mark of the first half. North Alabama’s Jennifer Osmond got her first career goal for the Lions at 38:43 off an assist from Heather Farmer. Those were the only two scores in regulation.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Chloe Roberts scored three goals and Nikki Brown had two assists to lead the University of North Alabama women’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Eckerd Sunday.

With the win UNA improved to 2-2 overall, having played all four matches on the road against NCAA Division II South Region opponents.

UNA scored the only goal of the first half as Roberts took a pass from Brown and put it in the net at the 25:25 mark. Roberts scored again at 51:11 off an assist from Brown to make it 2-0. Her third goal came in the 71st minute off an assist from Heather Farmer.

With UNA holding a 3-0 lead, UNA goalkeeper Alex McLay left in the game in the 80th minute, as did most of the Lions’ starters. Eckerd got on the scoreboard at the 87:16 mark as Samantha Nichols put the ball past UNA keeper Lauren Middleton.
