Repeat GSC honors for three Lions


North Alabama libero Lauren Greenhill (Jr., 5-8, Florence, Ala.) is the Gulf South Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.  The sophomore averaged 5.56 digs per game for the Lions, who went 2-1 in their own tournament. She had 21 digs against Christian Brothers for her best output of the week.

North Alabama junior Hirbo Hirbo was named this week’s Gulf South Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Hirbo collected his second award of the season, thanks to his second consecutive first-place finish.  The Russellville, AL native won the 8K Fleet Feet/Earl Jacoby Memorial Invitational, hosted by GSC member Alabama-Huntsville, posting a final time of 26:39.  His time was 23 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and helped UNA to a 5th-place team finish.

The first Gulf South Conference match of the season went the way of the road team this past weekend.

North Alabama (5-2-0, 1-0-0 GSC) capped off an undefeated week [in soccer] with a hard-fought victory at Ouachita Baptist this past Sunday, 2-0. The Tigers (3-3-0, 0-1-0 GSC) fell behind early after a hand ball inside the box set up a free kick and goal for GSC Player of the Week Chloe Roberts. The Lions’ Hollie Loud scored 11 minutes into the second half off an assist from Jo Chubb to ice the match. UNA opened the week with a 4-0 shutout against Clayton State (Ga.) Tuesday before hitting the road and defeating Texas Woman’s College, 4-2 Friday.
