UNA beats UAH for 2nd GSC victory
FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team overcame a sluggish offensive outing to post a 3-0 sweep of Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. The Lions hit just .127 for the match and committed 11 service errors but managed to escape with the 26-24, 28-26, 25-22 victory to improve to 9-4 on the year with a 2-0 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
Sarah Roberts had 14 kills and Hope Rayburn added 34 assists to lead UNA. Brigid O’Brien turned in a match-high 17 digs while Lauren Greenhill also reached double digits in the category with 15 for the Lions.
Jessica Ruple had 10 kills to lead the Chargers, who fall to 4-10 on the year and suffer their first conference loss.

RAYBURN IS GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME
BIRMINGHAM – For the fourth straight week a University of North Alabama volleyball player has garnered Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Week honors. This time, freshman Hope Rayburn took home the honor as the division’s Offensive Player of the Week.
The UNA setter helped the Lions post a 2-0 record last week with a pair of sweeps over West Georgia and Eckerd. She averaged 13.33 assists in the six sets as the team used a balanced offensive attack to improve to 8-4 on the season.
Rayburn recorded 41 assists against UWG and racked up 39 against Eckerd, when the team posted its second-highest hitting percentage of the season with a .375 showing. The Springville, native currently leads the GSC in assists per set, averaging 11.30 on the season.
Following the opening weekend of the season, middle hitter Sarah Roberts was named offensive player of the week in the East Division. Defensive specialist Lauren Greenhill then earned the league’s weekly defensive award the next two weeks before Rayburn was honored in week four.
