Lions have very successful Homecoming week

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama defense ran its scoreless streak to 10 quarters Saturday as the Lions shutout Arkansas Tech 28-0 at Braly Stadium.  The win was the fifth straight this season for the Lions and improves UNA’s Gulf South Conference record to 2-0.

Arkansas Tech falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.

North Alabama has not been scored on since the second quarter of the Southern Arkansas game back on Sept. 17.  The Lions have allowed just three points in the second half all season, have given up just three touchdowns in five games, and have not allowed any team to gain 100 yards rushing of 300 total yards.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama women’s soccer team got its sixth straight win and improved to 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play with a 5-2 road win at Alabama-Huntsville.

UAH took the early lead 1-0 before the game was tied in the 28th minute on an own goal off a shot by UNA’s Julia Osmond.  The Lions Chloe Roberts then gave UNA the lead for good at the 30:39 mark off an assist from Nikki Brown. Less than two minutes later Roberts scored again, her 14th goal of the year, to make it 3-1.

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team improved to 10-4 on the season with a 3-0 sweep over Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon at Flowers Hall. Natalie Marsh led all players with 11 kills and added 10 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season.

Hristina Markova added 10 kills on the day. She helped UNA get off to a fast start with seven kills in the opening set during a 25-19 victory. The Lions got early leads and held off late USI comebacks in the next two sets to produce 25-22 and 25-20 wins.

Hope Rayburn recorded 36 assists for UNA. The freshman also had six kills and finished the match with a .417 hitting percentage. Danielle LaGrange led the Screaming Eagles (9-6) with seven kills on the day.

Defensively, three UNA players reached double digits in digs. Lauren Greenhill had 15 digs for the match while Shae Watlins matched Marsh on the day with 10 digs for the Lions.

UNA will return to Gulf South Conference action on Tuesday with a road match against West Alabama. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus. The Lions will return home to face West Florida at 7 p.m. on Friday.



SEWANEE, Tenn. — University of North Alabama junior Hirbo Hirbo got his thitd win of the cross country season Friday evening, finishing first at the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of the South.  Hirbo turned in a time of 26:44 to lead all runners. on the 8k course.
