Lions travel to Florida

LAKELAND, Fla., – Florida Southern avenged an early-season loss to the North Alabama volleyball team with a 3-0 home win Thursday evening at Jenkins Field House on FSC campus. UNA hit .115 as a team and dropped its second straight match to fall to 12-6 on the season.

With the win, the Mocs improve to 15-4 and avenge a 3-2 setback to UNA on Sept. 10 in Savannah, Ga.

LAKELAND, Fla., – After knocking off Lynn 3-2 in the early match, the University of North Alabama volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 3 Tampa to finish the second day of the South Region Crossover with a 1-1 record. With the split, UNA moves to 13-7 on the year and will wrap up the south Florida trip on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Saint Leo.

After winning the first two sets against Lynn, the Lions were able to hold on for the 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25 victory. With the win, UNA improved to 5-2 on the year in five-set matches.

Hristina Markova and Sarah Roberts had 17 kills each to lead the Lions. Markova added four blocks and a .333 hitting percentage which included the final kill of the fifth set to seal the victory. Ari Smith and Natalie Marsh also had 14 kills each while Hope Rayburn added 60 assists for the match.

Defensively, four UNA players reached double figures in digs. Lauren Greenhill led the way with 23 while Marsh completed a double-double performance with 11 digs for the Lions. Rayburn and Brigid O’Brien added 10 digs each.

Against the third-ranked Spartans, UNA was held to a season-low 22 kills in the 14-25, 9-25, 15-25 loss. Tampa needed just 53 minutes to complete the sweep and improve to 16-3 on the season.

Markova led the Lions with six kills. Rayburn had 16 assists while Greenhill produced 13 digs for the match.



SAINT LEO, Fla., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team completed its south Florida road trip with a 3-1 victory at Saint Leo Saturday afternoon at the Bowman Center on the SLU campus. The 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23 victory gives the Lions a 14-7 overall record, including a 2-2 mark on the trip.

Against the host Lions, Hristina Markova had 15 kills and hit .324 for the match to lead UNA. Natalie Marsh and Sarah Roberts added 13 kills each, while Hope Rayburn produced 49 assists.

Defensively, Lauren Greenhill led the way with 27 digs. Brigid O’Brien also reached double figures in the category with 16 digs on the day.
