FLORENCE – There was plenty of tension in the room as the North Alabama football team and its fans gathered Sunday afternoon at the Guillot University Center to view the Division II playoff pairings.

For the first time in several years UNA was not guaranteed a playoff berth. In fact, after Saturday’s 29-28 loss at Harding, the Lions’ chances did not look good.

But the players who had been very quiet before the announcement suddenly began cheering and jumping when the Super Region 2 bracket showed UNA as the No. 6 team. The Lions (8-3) will play at Valdosta State (8-2) on Saturday in the first round. Kickoff time will be set Monday.
