ARKADELPHIA, Ark., – Niala Harris scored 31 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team to a 80-63 season-opening win over Henderson State Thursday on the road. The senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., was 11-of-14 from the floor and added nine defensive and two offensive rebounds to complete the double-double.
Harris had 15 points at the half as the Lions took a 36-35 lead into the locker room. In the second half, UNA pulled away by hitting 62 percent from the floor as a team and connecting on 13-of-15 shots from the foul line.
Dana Jackson added 14 points for the Lions while Sequoyah Cliff added 13 points on the night.
Henderson State (1-1) was led by Gianna Woods’ 18 points.
Both teams were able to grab 36 rebounds for the game. The Lions, however, got 32 second-chance points.
UNA will remain in Arkadelphia for a 6 p.m. tip-off Friday against Ouachita Baptist.
