UNA Soccer over UAH


HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama women’s soccer team further solidified its spot in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 2-1 road win at Alabama-Huntsville Friday afternoon. The Lions, already assured of a post-season slot entering the match, downed the Chargers to improve to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in the GSC. With the win, UNA can finish no lower than third in the final league standings. The Lions only remaining conference game is Sunday at West Florida at 1 p.m.

UNA took the early lead on UAH with a goal in the 17th minute off the foot of Chloe Roberts. She scored off a free kick from the left side to give the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 16:18 mark. In the second half, Roberts scored again, this time on a penalty kick. It was her 15th goal of the season and the 75th of career at UNA. Roberts goal came at 65:10 and appeared to secure the win for the Lions. UAH would get on the board as Cady Reisman scored on a penalty kick at the 84:02 mark after UNA’s Katie Crosby was issued a red card. The Lions were able to hold on for the last six minutes for the win, however.

UAH falls to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the GSC. ┬áThe win was UNA’s fourth straight over the Chargers.
Following the game Sunday at West Florida, UNA will close out its regular season at home against Kentucky Wesleyan at 7 p.m. on October 31.
