Lions win UWG Tip-Off Classic


DAHLONEGA, Ga., – The University of North Alabama women’s basketball team used a balanced attack to knock off host North Georgia 60-51 Saturday afternoon to win the UNG Tip-Off Classic with a 2-0 record. Four players reached double digits in scoring as the Lions improved to 3-1 on the season.

Jasmine Horne scored 11 points on Saturday and was named MVP of the event after posting solid all-around numbers. In the win, the senior from Sheffield added six rebounds, five assists, one blocked shot and a game-high six steals for UNA.

Joining Horne on the all-tournament team were seniors Dana Jackson and Lacy Lewis. Jackson led the team with 12 points on the day while Lewis was 3-of-5 from three-point range and finished with 11 points. Nichelle Fillmore rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jessi Smith also just missed double figures on the day with nine points and knocking down a trio of three-point baskets. For the game, UNA was 8-of-22 from three-point range.
