FLORENCE, Ala. – In recognition to his contributions to the University of North Alabama as a student-athlete, coach and athletic administrator, the University of North Alabama has named its athletic complex the Bill Jones Athletic Complex. The message board on Pine Street at the entrance of the athletic complex will be updated, and a visitors plaza will be created at the right front of Flowers Hall in honor of Jones, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 72.

The Bill Jones Athletic Complex will include Flowers Hall, the Henry A. “Hal” Self Field House, Mike D. Lane Baseball Field and the UNA football practice field and soccer fields.

A former Lion basketball player and a 1958 UNA graduate, Jones returned to Florence in 1974 as UNA’s men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director. He became UNA’s first full-time athletic director in 1987.
