UNA rolls in GSC Tournament; Sets record for hits

ROME, GA — After a one run effort yesterday in a tough loss to lower-seeded Valdosta State, the University of North Alabama baseball team came alive today defeating Christian Brothers 19-1 at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves.  The Lions set a Gulf South Conference Tournament record with 24 hits in the game, with twelve of them coming in a 13-run fourth inning.

The scoring started in the first inning with Josh Cyr doubling in two runs before UNA extended the lead to 5-0 after three innings.  The Lions then unloaded on the Buccaneers in the fourth as Josh Carpenter, Andrew Almon and Darrmal Moore all had two hits to lead the twelve-hit inning.  Michael Schmidt was 3-for-4 on the day with 4 RBI.

UNA advance to meet West Georgia at 10:00 am EST tomorrow.
