The University of North Alabama volleyball team gears up for another great season.  They return four starters from the 2011 campaign where the Lions finished 24-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive appearance.  This season, the team plans to contend for the GSC title, which has eluded them since 2006, and to go farther in the playoffs, possibly getting the program’s second national title.

Coach Radecki has comprised another tough schedule that will challenge the team and let them know what caliber of play is necessary for winning titles.  Lions opponents are from seven conferences in eight states including D2 power West Texas A&M and DI Samford along with five teams from the regionally tough Sunshine State Conference.  UNA was picked to finish second in the league by coaches placing just behind defending champion, West Florida.  Other tough conference foes will include Christian Brothers, Valdosta State and West Alabama.

Returning starters include 2012 Pre-season All-GSC Pricilla Massengale, a 5-10 senior from Baytown, Texas, who averaged 2.59 kills per set last year.  Other returning starters and veterans are senior Cara Gregg, junior Hope Rayburn, junior Caroline Neisler, junior Jessica Ronyack and junior Taylor Chapman.  Top newcomers include transfers OH/RS De’licia Hutchins, a 5-8 junior from Gadsden State Community College, and MH LeAnna Lloyd, a 6-2 junior from Yavapai Community College.

UNA opens by traveling for the first eight matches then plays 8 out of 9 matches at home to start the GSC schedule.
