Fast Start Leads to National Ranking for UNA Men

After starting the season with a 7-0 record, the University of North Alabama men’s basketball team has earned its first national ranking since 2008. The Lions entered the NABC/Division II men’s basketball rankings at No. 23 on Tuesday.

The fast start marks only the fifth time UNA has remained unbeaten this far into the season. The 1973-74 UNA team started 7-0 only to finish the season with a 15-8 mark. In 1990, the Lions got off to an 8-0 start and finished the season with the Division II National Championship.

UNA’s 1983-84 Final Four team started the season 9-0 while the 1976-77 squad owns the record for best start in school with a 12-0 mark. That team also reached the Division II Final Four.
