For the first time since 1994, the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team will make an appearance in regional competition of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Lions (21-6) were announced as the #7 seed in the South Region and will face #2 seed and tough GSC foe Delta State.
The University of North Alabama women’s basketball team completed the first half of Gulf South Conference play in impressive fashion Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The Lions hit 14 three-point baskets as a team during an 84-66 win over Alabama-Huntsville. With the victory, UNA improves to 15-5 on the season and 6-0 in GSC play.
The Lions [men] let a 12-point halftime lead quickly slip away and then missed some crucial free throws in the final 30 seconds as West Georgia came away with a 77-74 victory at Flowers Hall. The University of North Alabama women’s basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the Gulf South Conference East Division with a 69-62 home win over West Georgia.
Courtnei Bowens came off the bench to score 14 points and lead the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team to a 49-44 Gulf South Conference victory over Valdosta State Thursday evening at The Complex on the VSU campus. With the win, the Lions improve to 10-5 overall and open GSC play at 1-0 on the year. Valdosta State extended its winning streak to 11 straight games Thursday with a 102-84 home win over North Alabama in the Gulf South Conference opener for both men’s teams.
