Multiple Lions earn post-season honors

Football standout Courtney Harris has been announced a finalist for the Upshaw Award, while Daktronics has deemed two Lions soccer All-Americans for the second time. Chloe Roberts repeats on the first-team as Nikki Brown is again named to the second-team. Three volleyball players have been honored with All-Region accolades with Sarah Robert earning a second-team nod along with honorable mentions for Natalie Marsh and Lauren Greenhill.

Lions split with Christian Bros.

Four players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team reached the .500 mark for the season with a 68-57 home win over Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. Christian Brothers shot 60 percent from the floor and also used a dominating rebounding performance over North Alabama to get an 80-55 victory over the Lions’ men’s team.

UNA hits record 17 three’s vs. Delta State

An onslaught of three-point baskets in the second half helped the University of North Alabama men’s basketball team pull away from Delta State for a 95-75 victory Monday evening at Flowers Hall. For the game, the Lions hit a school record 17 three-pointers, including an 11-for-16 showing in the second half to improve to 3-4 on the season. The University of North Alabama women’s basketball team went six minutes without scoring in the second half to allow second-ranked Delta State to pull away for a 63-44 victory,

Lions avenge loss to Valdosta State

After being shut out in its regular-season game against Valdosta State, the North Alabama offense was determined to get some revenge in Saturday’s Division II playoff opener against the Blazers. But it was the UNA defense that made sure there would be no shutout this time. The Lions forced seven Valdosta State turnovers, including four in the first quarter, en route to a 43-20 victory over the Blazers.

Lions Football leads with 11 on All-GSC team

The University of North Alabama led the way on the 2010 All-Gulf South Conference Football Team, landing 11 players on the squad. UNA had six first-team All-GSC selections and five second-team picks in voting by the league’s head football coaches.

An offense that had gone eight straight quarters without scoring a touchdown at Braly Stadium found the end zone three times over a span of a little more than six minutes as the Lions rallied for a thrilling 24-23 victory over the Tigers.

UNA handles West GA; GSC Tournament up next

A balanced offensive attack helped the University of North Alabama volleyball team post a 3-0 Gulf South Conference sweep over visiting West Georgia Saturday afternoon in the final regular-season match of the season at Flowers Hall. Three players reached double figures in kills while the Lions hit .330 as a team to improve to 19-8 on the season with an 8-2 mark in GSC play.

Lions 5th in Football Regional Rankings

The NCAA Division II Football Committee has released the first poll of the 2010 season. The University of North Alabama Lions are ranked #5 in Super Regional 2 with two games left in the regular season. Undefeated Albany State sits atop the regional poll with Valdosta State being ranked second. Just ahead of the Lions are a pair of SAC teams, Catawba and Wingate. Other ranked GSC teams were #8 Delta State and #10 Henderson State.
